Dr. Self joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2009. He graduated from Davidson College, where he was an Academic All-American baseball player, and then from the University of Virginia School of Medicine with AOA honors. He completed residency in emergency medicine and served as chief resident at Northwestern University. He is currently a fellow in the Veterans Administration Quality Scholars program and is pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at Vanderbilt. His academic interests include point-of-care diagnostic testing, optimizing antibiotic use, sepsis resuscitation, and the implementation of evidence based medicine into clinical practice.
Dr. Self’s wife, Elizabeth, is a graduate student at Vanderbilt’s Peabody School of Education.
