Kevin began his career in 1985 as an emergency nurse working in rural southern Georgia.  He started at Vanderbilt in 1989 in the Emergency Department and began working as a flight nurse at Vanderbilt LifeFlight in1993. Kevin left the program in 2006 to work with Emergency Medicine. Kevin functions as the Trauma Program Manager and works with both the myriad EMS and air medical agencies that serve Vanderbilt as a liaison and educator. He serves as faculty member focusing on issues surrounding trauma care, airway management, EMS and air medical transport.

In November of 2003 Kevin was named the Association of Air Medical Service’s Air Medical Crew Member of the Year at the Air Medical Transport Conference in Reno, NV. In 2002 he was awarded Vanderbilt’s Rosamond Gabrielson Staff Nurse of the Year Award. Kevin is currently the President of the Air/Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) an international association representing flight/transport nurses.  

His educational background includes an Associates Degree in Nursing, a Bachelors of Science/Allied Health and a Masters in Public Health. Kevin speaks regularly to professional groups across the United States and Canada focusing on issues that affect transport, emergency medicine and healthcare organizations.

He has authored over 30 articles that have appeared in periodicals such as the Journal of Emergency Nursing, EMS Magazine, Air Med, Air Medical Journal, JEMS and Emergency Medicine along with several trade and local magazines.

 

Born and raised in Tennessee, he resides in Franklin.
