Dr. Wright graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1985 and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, where he also served as chief resident. He became a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1991 and was elected a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians in 1992. His major academic interests are international and tropical medicine and he has worked with Doctors Without Borders in Uganda. He has also done medical work in Zambia, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Guatemala, Haiti and Guyana. He has published over 70 articles on a variety of topics. Dr. Wright also received an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health and completed the Gorgas Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine. He is certified in tropical medicine by the ASTMH and in travel medicine by the ISTM. 

Dr. Wright enjoys international travel, backpacking and playing with gadgets
