![]() Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine
Dr Stephan Russ graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and began his residency in Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt in 2003. He completed a chief resident year in 2006-07 and was honored with the Vanderbilt CANDLE award for exemplary teaching and mentoring by the medical students. He completed a two-year Quality Improvement fellowship funded through the Veteran's Administration and graduated with an MPH in June 2009. Dr. Russ is the medical director for the USAR team based in Nashville, and has previous experience in pre-hospital medicine that includes time as a captain with a rural fire department and working as a ski patroller. He is involved in the Division of International Medicine with a focus on systems improvement and social marketing. His academic interests include implementation science, medical decision making, informatics, and responding to ethanol emergencies. He strives daily to become more like his mentor and hero, Dr. Seth Wright.
