Vacation Residents get at least two weeks of paid vacation during the first year and three weeks during their 2nd and 3rd years. Specific requests are almost always honored. In addition, we have guaranteed time off during the December holidays. Food Residents receive a yearly meal allowance to help pay for meals when they are on duty. Parking On campus parking is free for residents. Insurance Several flexible health insurance plans are available residents and their families. Dental plans are also available. Life insurance and professional liability insurance are provided by the University. Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act provides eligible employees the right to take up to twelve weeks unpaid leave from a job for family or medical reasons, including childbirth and care for the child, adoption or placement of a foster child, care for a seriously ill family member, or serious illness of the employee. Retirement Vanderbilt provides an option for tax deferring up to 20% of your salary into a 403 (b) retirement plan. After 12 months of employment a 3% contribution with a 3% match is required. Additional matching of 2% is optional. There are four investment companies with a number of fund options; Fidelity, TIAA/CREF, Vanguard and VALIC.
