Welcome to Vanderbilt Emergency Medicine...
Vanderbilt’s Department of Emergency Medicine prides itself on providing some of the best teaching in the nation. Our fourth year medical student rotation is the highest rated required clinical rotation in the Medical School. Similarly, our first year introductory course in Emergency Medicine is the most popular elective offered at Vanderbilt and is selected by 80% of the first year class.
Vanderbilt’s Emergency Medicine residents are taught by faculty who are committed to academic excellence. Both Drs. Wrenn and Slovis are nationally known educators and set the standard for the Department’s style—interactive teaching in a relaxed but challenging environment.
Every faculty member and upper level resident views excellent teaching as part of his or her responsibilities. All of us at Vanderbilt believe in creating a positive learning environment both in the classroom and at the bedside. We believe a program’s leaders set the standard. We are proud that our Chairman and Residency Director make education their number one priority. Either Dr. Slovis or Dr. Wrenn teaches a morning conference 5 days a week, 52 weeks per year in addition to directing the Residency’s 5 required hours of didactics each week.
Our educational programs are more specifically described in this website’s Curriculum, Conference and Teaching sites.
